When the Wii was first released, it brought with it a number of exclusive titles, including Red Steel. This game was essentially a FPS in which the player could switch between gun action and sword action by using the Wii remote or nunchuk. This innovative gameplay generated much excitement throughout the gaming community and the title was one of the best selling launch titles for Nintendo's console. Developers Ubisoft have finally developed a sequel, and Wii's Red Steel 2 is due out this Spring.

Wii's Red Steel 2 is shifting the action from the Mafia orientated mob storyline of the original and relocating to a desert area, in which you control the mysterious 'Swordsman'. Seeking revenge on a range of enemies, you battle your way through various environments using the same play technique as
the original.

The controls have been fine tuned to a high degree with this title. Despite the high sales of the original, one problem that was continually cited by critics was that the controls didn't accurately transfer player movements to the screen. By using the new WiiMotion Plus, Wii's Red Steel 2 hopes to counter this problem significantly.

Also, the game takes a new graphical approach. Rather than the realistic look of the original, Wii's Red Steel 2 is done with a cell shaded look, giving the game a nicely stylised finish. Multiplayer has also been dropped from this title, as Ubisoft claim they wanted to put all their effort into making the best single player campaign possible.

The original Red Steel was something of a flawed masterpiece; it had all the potential to be a great and innovative game but was just let down by below-par controls. If Wii's Red Steel 2 can rectify this problem, then we could be seeing a truly magnificent game.

Whilst providing a vast range of exclusive games tailored for its own unique control style, the Nintendo Wii is often overlooked for its action/RPG exclusives. However, one game released at the end of 2009 took the software sales by storm and won great acclaim amongst gaming circles; Wii's Muramasa: Demon Blade.

The game follows two sword slingers as they battle their way towards their own goals. Kisuke is a young Ninja struggling to access his memories whilst searching for the ultimate blade, and Momohime, a samurai girl possessed by a foul spirit. Wii's Muramasa: Demon Blade is geared towards the unique skills each of these characters exert as master sword users.

Players can make use of three varied control techniques; the Wii remote itself, or by employing either the Gamecube controller or the classic one. Furthermore, in a neat development, players can choose whether to play Wii's Muramasa: Demon Blade as a focussed RPG, urging levelling up, or as a simpler action adventure.

Graphically, the game excels where most other Wii titles might fall behind. Drawing paralells to Square Enix's Odin Sphere, the game features a traditional Japanese art style quickly becoming popular amongst players. There's a vast range of swords for gamers to collect and forge throughout the campaign too, steeping the audience in sword lore.

Wii's Muramasa: Demon Blade is a great exclusive title which undoubtedly deserves the praise it has garnered so far. The varied play styles and impressive graphics provide a game which merits multiple playthroughs, and is a definite choice for fans of feudal Japanese culture and sword play!

Not long after completing and distributing the original Wii remote and Nunchuk, Nintendo began work on the Wii MotionPlus device. Whilst the original remotes offered a breakthrough in interactive gaming technology, the company had already realised it could be refined even further. Nintendo drafted in technological company AiLive to create the optional add on.

Wii MotionPlus is used to pinpoint accuracy to a more distinct degree by implementing a dual-axis angular sensor, which reads movements and actions through both kinetic action and depth perception. Therefore, more distinct movements and mannerisms can be captured and translated by the device.

The device can be attached to the existing Wii remote using a special External Extension connector, meaning that the Wii MotionPlus can be interchanged depending on which game is being played. The feature is not compatible with every game in the back catalogue, and cannot be used in conjunction with other peripherals such as the Wii Wheel. However, for the games that do support the add-on, the difference is jaw dropping, with a degree of accuracy verging on perfection.

The number of Wii MotionPlus compatible games is steadily growing, and it's great to see the heightened potential of the Wii console being realised. The system continues to pave the way to a future of innovative gaming which breaks conventional boundaries- literally putting you into the game itself!

Nintendo's track record with beat 'em ups has been a bit up and down thus far, but all that is about to end with Wii's Tatsunoko Vs Capcom! With the western unveiling just round the corner, excitement is growing for the most recent installment in Capcom's well loved 'vs' series. Here, Capcom have pitted their favourite combatants against opponents from the popular Tatsunoko animation studio.

This game belongs in the popular range of '2.5 D' fighters. This name is used to describe when a title meshes 3D rendered characters on a 2D backdrop. Another popular example is Street Fighter 4. Wii's Tatsunoko Vs Capcom makes use of 2 partner fights, with the focus on easier controls revolving around a trio of basic attacks- weak, medium and strong. This is used to mix easy commands with dazzling on screen graphics.

We can promise you that Wii's Tatsunoko Vs Capcom looks very impressive. The Wii has wrestled with visuals in the shadow of Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, but this game offers a feverish and dynamic gameplay style mirrored in amazing visual displays. The 'Vs' series has always been flamboyant regarding super special moves and partner attacks, and it's nice to see the Wii showing off some inspired visuals.

The usual popular characters make a return for the Capcom team ; Ryu, Chun Li and Morrigan heading the march. Having said that, Capcom have opted to include some more obscure offerings, such as Yami from Okami. Leading the Tatsunoko side are Ken the Eagle, Karas and Tekkaman Blade. These characters join together in Wii's Tatsunoko Vs Capcom to offer a cataclysmic and beautiful competition!

This game is certainly worth looking into both as an admirer of the Capcom series or simply as a Wii beat 'em up fan. The console has never seen better visuals and the controls are deceivingly straightforward to pick up. The Wii's Tatsunoko Vs Capcom is definitely the most impressive fighter released to the system thus far, and so is definitely worth your time!

Ever since the Wii revolutionized home videogaming with their leading edge use of motion sensing, Nintendo have pursued opportunities to branch out on the central control system for the machine. The standard Wiimote and nunchuk have worked well as a foundation for more elaborate control efforts. A clear example of this is the Wii wheel, utilized by fixing the wiimote into a wheel shell to allow accurate portrayal of real driving. Along with this, Nintendo have produced the Wii zapper- a more modern version of the fan favorite Wii light gun.

The Wiimote is employed to simply point and 'fire' at the screen, and so critics wondered if the Wii light gun was surplus to requirements, but players cried out for development. Light guns aren't new- they've been around for years now, particularly in arcades, but the concept of joining the praised technology of the Wiimote with a light gun is clearly a masterstroke.

Like the Wii wheel, the Wii light gun is largely a shell into which the Wiimote comfortably fits, and is just used to mirror the feel of firing a gun. So the Wii version isn't a light gun in the standard sense. This is seen as an advantage as many plasma and LCD televisions have problems registering the signals of other light guns, but the Wiimote is designed with current technology to mind, and so offers no such setbacks.

Various new Wii games have been bundled with the Wii light gun, such as Resident Evil : Darkside Chronicles. The device is very popular with rail shooters such as this game, and is promoted alongside other newtitles, such as Dead Space : Extraction.

It's definitely worth trying out the Wii light gun ; it is lightweight, cushty and actually brings back the classic feel of FPS arcade machines. It also helps throw players into the action and suspense of the game, as you witness and feel precisely what you would in the genuine situation. So grab your Wii light gun and enter the fray!

Nintendo Wii features will impress first time players and seasoned gameplayers alike. Furthermore, it has been proved that Wii features have the capacity to inspire even individuals with little care for videogames. Given this, if you want to master this impressive gaming console you ought to be learning about the varied Wii features.

One of the best Nintendo Wii features is internet play, and this is pretty easy to boot up. All you've got to do is attach the dsl cable to the console and you're ready to experience gaming the online way. It's worth discussing that you need to have a broadband connection to fully appreciate online play, as otherwise you may experience annoying lags.

The most recent Wii feature is Wii Motion Plus, an addition being used to augment the present Wii motion recognition. While the fundamental motion sensing with the Wii isn't bad, game-players have been crying out for better. Nintendo listened, and have produced this add on which, they are saying, brings the motion sense nearer to their original vision.

The wireless controllers bundled in the release are another awesome Wii feature. The inherant nature of the Wii nunchuk implies that wires would have been awfully awkward, so wireless is obviously the best option. Before you're planning on buying a Wii, you need to look into the featues related to the console to determine if they're right for you. When you start playing games using the Wii features, your idea of videogaming will be changed forever!

The Nintendo Revolution - it might have been a familiar name for the firm's newest console.

It would have been aptly acceptable as well, given Nintendo's new philosophy of changing the way in which the game is played. For this generation of consoles, Nintendo has abandoned the conventional belief that good graphics and fantastic game play will sell gaming systems. Instead, Nintendo has adopted the policy that, for the gaming industry to go forward, games and gaming systems must be able to get non-gamers into gaming.

This means a change in the way that games are designed. Games should be powered by gaming systems that are friendly for entry-level fans. Lose the multiple buttons of controllers. Make the player's own action control the events in the game. Make the players themselves into the controller.

What was at first dubbed as the Nintendo Revolution settled on a new, more marketable name: the Nintendo Wii. Wii, naturally, is a play on the word "we." it's also a figurative symbolism, as "Wii" is spelt with two letter "i's" that look like 2 folks standing together. Nintendo has related the Wii is named as such to send the message that the console is a video game system that may permit folk to get together and gather around the enjoyable experience it can provide.

Wii

Overall Rating:

Retail Price: $199.99

Amazon Price: $199.99

Has this revolution succeeded? Given the fact that the Nintendo Wii has sold just about 8,000,000 units at the end of 2008, and that the console has sold more units than the Sony PS3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360 mixed, then the answer would point to a resounding "yes." The selling approach reaped superb dividends, and the results have justified the move forward.

So really, the console previously tagged as the Nintendo Revolution was eventually named as the Nintendo Wii is a marketing case study that scholars will peruse in the years to come. It is a strategy that worked, and a strategy that should provide some necessary lessons in product packaging and advertising.
