Can The Nintendo Wii Fit Really Make You Lose Weight

Amazingly, there is only one console game that has been on the top 5 list since its release. This video game is the Wii Fit for the Nintendo Wii. Released in May of 2008, the Wii Fit has never been dislodged from the top 5 position in almost all sales charts around the world. In fact, the Nintendo Wii's bestselling game has even grabbed the number 1 spot in many occasions when there are no high profile games being released.

One would have to ask, what is it about the Nintendo Wii Fit that makes it such a highly coveted video game title?

The obvious answer? Many people believe that the Nintendo Wii Fit is something that will help them lose weight and something that will help them enjoy a good and healthy life.

But then again, there is the debacle of Wii Sports, which is bundled with the Nintendo Wii. Before the release of the Nintendo Wii, many people believed that Wii Sports was a title that will compel them to exert physical effort in an enjoyable way, a process which would surely lead to substantial weight loss and a healthier life. Such a belief was shattered when an editor of a video game website experimented on Wii Sports by playing it for 2 hours a day for 14 days straight, and recorded a loss of 2 lbs. during that period.

Now, a lot of people are asking: can the Nintendo Wii Fit really help you lose weight?

Much like Wii Sports, the Nintendo Wii Fit comes with a variety of games

5 Nintendo Wii Games That Fans Would Love To See

Currently, the Nintendo Wii is the world’s bestselling gaming console.  Its sales outnumber the sales of both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 combined.  Gamers – hardcore and casuals alike – have embraced the Nintendo Wii, what with the new game play experience it provides.

Already, there are a multitude of Nintendo Wii games that are already available in the market.  Nintendo originals like Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Paper Mario, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and various iterations of Pokemon are among the top-selling games in sales charts all over the world.  Nintendo Wii games which are ports from other systems are also making some big waves, like Dead Rising.

But gamers want more Nintendo Wii games, being the insatiable lot that they are.
Specifically, gamers are demanding these 5 Nintendo Wii games that will give them countless hours of absolute joy:

1.  A new Mario RPG.  Paper Mario was fantastic!  But it was a very short game and avid gamers have since asked for more.  A sequel would be nice, though a Mario RPG that will revisit the world created by the Square-Nintendo collaboration way back in the SNES days would be amazing.

2. A new Zelda.  The Nintendo DS is about to receive its second Zelda title in the form of the soon-to-be-released the Legend of Zelda: Spirit Links.  Of all the Nintendo Wii games currently available, on one bears the mark of the tri-force, the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.  Considering that the title is one of a handful of Nintendo Wii games during the system’s launch only reinforces the fact that it’s been a long time since Nintendo’s blockbuster of a console hosted a Zelda game.

3. Sports games, anyone?  This is the consoles biggest weakness when it comes to software: the lack of Nintendo Wii games focused on professional sports.  Wii Sports is cool but it’s not what hardcore sports fans want.  EA games brings original versions of their franchises like the NBA Live series and the Tiger Woods series, but making a shooting motion with the Wiimote or holding the same like it’s a golf club just doesn’t cut it.  Diehard sports fans want simulation titles like what the Xbox 360 and PS3 gets.  Give us a straight up sports game, Nintendo!

4. A Resident Evil game.  The Gamecube was the exclusive home of the Resident Evil franchise for a while.  It hosted the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 as well as the stylish Resident Evil remake.  Nintendo fans are disappointed, however, that the only Resident Evil in the current library of Nintendo Wii games is a rail shooter.  Nintendo Wii gamers want a traditional Resident Evil game, not a House of the Dead wannabe.

5. A new Mario platformer.  Whenever a new Mario platform game is released, the world celebrates as if there’s a grand occasion.  It’s been almost 2 years since Super Mario Galaxy was released.  Nintendo Wii games need a boost with the addition of a new Mario platformer.

Sonic Returns…..Again!

The  Sonic the Hedgehog franchise was once the epitome of gaming success, with the first two or three titles topping the charts every time with their vibrant, fun and accessible gaming. The advent of next gen consoles and higher expectations led to Sega trying out new tricks with the tried and tested formula; introducing 3D environments, on-the-rails games and more. In recent years, Sonic has deviated even more so, with games recreating him as a knight, a werehog, and more. After years of lamentation, fans of the classic are to get their wishes realised with Sonic 4:Episode 1.

Whilst some recent titles in the series have been imaginative, Sonic 4:Episode 1 is said to be what gamers have been waiting for for years; a return to the classic gameplay. Here. Sonic returns to his side-scrolling adventures, with environments highly reminiscent of those seen in the retro titles, such as the Green Hill Zone. The excess characters have been left at home too, with even trusty sidekick Tails absent from the lineup. Said to be a sequel to Sonic and Knuckles, this game sees Sonic strike out on his own for new adventures.

Of course, our current generation consoles will deliver Sonic 4:Episode 1 with beautiful graphics. Despite being a side scroller,The character models have been rendered in 3D giving a highly polished finish. The colours are more vibrant than ever and the myriad terrain features we fondly remember, including the loops-the-loops, have been nicely realised. The game also supports high-definition, so has the potential to look even better.

This game will appear on Wiiware, PSN and Xboxlive and as the title suggests, further adventures are set to follow. Will these fun little offerings help bring Sonic back to the top? Only time will tell. But for those who loved the look and feel of the classics, Sonic 4:Episode 1 is a refreshing return to the formula.

More Beat Em Ups With Wii’s Tournament of Legends

The range of Nintendo Wii exclusive Beat Em Up titles continues to grow this year, as following hot on the heels of Tatsunoko vs Capcom we have an entirely new title; Wii's Tournament of Legends. From developers High Voltage, this title is the first in a proposed franchise of weapons-based fighters.

Wii
Overall Rating:

Retail Price: $199.99
Amazon Price: $199.99

Wii's Tournament of Legends is based around Greek and Roman mythology, featuring fighters based on legends from that era. Each character is armed with a unique weapon, but as the single player mode progresses this weapon can be augmented and levelled up with different abilities, which helps to make combat quite varied.

The gameplay is as standard for a Beat Em Up, but a few interesting additions have been thrown in. The camera actually pans to favour the player dealing the most damage, so if you're administering quite a thrashing to your opponent the camera will zoom in on your moves. Furthermore, each stage in Wii's Tournament of Legends features a 'Guardian', an NPC who will run in at random intervals to attack you and your opponent. These attacks can be dodged or countered, and add an extra dynamic to the system.

The Wii remote and Nunchuk are both employed in Wii's Tournament of Legends, and each controller corresponds to either your right or left arm as you attack and block. However, control pad support is included for those that prefer the old school way.

This title is shaping up to be another great little Wii Beat Em Up. The combat is looking solid enough and the little extras help to spice up a tried and tested formula. The subject matter is refreshing and makes a decent change to the usual range of characters we'd normally see. Wii's Tournament of Legends is released this summer, and could well be worth checking out!

Ubisoft Return With Wii’s Red Steel 2

When the Wii was first released, it brought with it a number of exclusive titles, including Red Steel. This game was essentially a FPS in which the player could switch between gun action and sword action by using the Wii remote or nunchuk. This innovative gameplay generated much excitement throughout the gaming community and the title was one of the best selling launch titles for Nintendo's console. Developers Ubisoft have finally developed a sequel, and Wii's Red Steel 2 is due out this Spring.

Wii's Red Steel 2 is shifting the action from the Mafia orientated mob storyline of the original and relocating to a desert area, in which you control the mysterious 'Swordsman'. Seeking revenge on a range of enemies, you battle your way through various environments using the same play technique as
the original.

The controls have been fine tuned to a high degree with this title. Despite the high sales of the original, one problem that was continually cited by critics was that the controls didn't accurately transfer player movements to the screen. By using the new WiiMotion Plus, Wii's Red Steel 2 hopes to counter this problem significantly.

Also, the game takes a new graphical approach. Rather than the realistic look of the original, Wii's Red Steel 2 is done with a cell shaded look, giving the game a nicely stylised finish. Multiplayer has also been dropped from this title, as Ubisoft claim they wanted to put all their effort into making the best single player campaign possible.

The original Red Steel was something of a flawed masterpiece; it had all the potential to be a great and innovative game but was just let down by below-par controls. If Wii's Red Steel 2 can rectify this problem, then we could be seeing a truly magnificent game.

Action RPG With Wii’s Muramasa: Demon Blade

Whilst providing a vast range of exclusive games tailored for its own unique control style, the Nintendo Wii is often overlooked for its action/RPG exclusives. However, one game released at the end of 2009 took the software sales by storm and won great acclaim amongst gaming circles; Wii's Muramasa: Demon Blade.

The game follows two sword slingers as they battle their way towards their own goals. Kisuke is a young Ninja struggling to access his memories whilst searching for the ultimate blade, and Momohime, a samurai girl possessed by a foul spirit. Wii's Muramasa: Demon Blade is geared towards the unique skills each of these characters exert as master sword users.

Players can make use of three varied control techniques; the Wii remote itself, or by employing either the Gamecube controller or the classic one. Furthermore, in a neat development, players can choose whether to play Wii's Muramasa: Demon Blade as a focussed RPG, urging levelling up, or as a simpler action adventure.

Graphically, the game excels where most other Wii titles might fall behind. Drawing paralells to Square Enix's Odin Sphere, the game features a traditional Japanese art style quickly becoming popular amongst players. There's a vast range of swords for gamers to collect and forge throughout the campaign too, steeping the audience in sword lore.

Wii's Muramasa: Demon Blade is a great exclusive title which undoubtedly deserves the praise it has garnered so far. The varied play styles and impressive graphics provide a game which merits multiple playthroughs, and is a definite choice for fans of feudal Japanese culture and sword play!

Wii’s Tatsunoko Vs Capcom

Nintendo's track record with beat 'em ups has been a bit up and down thus far, but all that is about to end with Wii's Tatsunoko Vs Capcom! With the western unveiling just round the corner, excitement is growing for the most recent installment in Capcom's well loved 'vs' series. Here, Capcom have pitted their favourite combatants against opponents from the popular Tatsunoko animation studio.

This game belongs in the popular range of '2.5 D' fighters. This name is used to describe when a title meshes 3D rendered characters on a 2D backdrop. Another popular example is Street Fighter 4. Wii's Tatsunoko Vs Capcom makes use of 2 partner fights, with the focus on easier controls revolving around a trio of basic attacks- weak, medium and strong. This is used to mix easy commands with dazzling on screen graphics.

We can promise you that Wii's Tatsunoko Vs Capcom looks very impressive. The Wii has wrestled with visuals in the shadow of Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, but this game offers a feverish and dynamic gameplay style mirrored in amazing visual displays. The 'Vs' series has always been flamboyant regarding super special moves and partner attacks, and it's nice to see the Wii showing off some inspired visuals.

The usual popular characters make a return for the Capcom team ; Ryu, Chun Li and Morrigan heading the march. Having said that, Capcom have opted to include some more obscure offerings, such as Yami from Okami. Leading the Tatsunoko side are Ken the Eagle, Karas and Tekkaman Blade. These characters join together in Wii's Tatsunoko Vs Capcom to offer a cataclysmic and beautiful competition!

This game is certainly worth looking into both as an admirer of the Capcom series or simply as a Wii beat 'em up fan. The console has never seen better visuals and the controls are deceivingly straightforward to pick up. The Wii's Tatsunoko Vs Capcom is definitely the most impressive fighter released to the system thus far, and so is definitely worth your time!
