According to Nintendo a new Wii sports online, anticipated by many will not be released in the near future.  While Wii sports has been a smashing success with many Wii sports reviews listing it as one of the best games of 2007 and 2008, a follow up title with online play available does not appear to be coming any time soon.  So why is there no release? Nintendo have given some explanations.

Reasons Why Wii Sports Online is Not Available

The success and popularity of the first Wii sports game may be a factor.  While this may seem odd, it is not so much that the first game was successful but more to the point of why it was successful. The game allows people to get together and play, creating an online version may cause the social aspect to stop meaning people will play with someone but only via cables. Not very sociable!

Nintendo’s current online community is not very strong or populous.  It would be difficult to port over the sports game and making sure that the playability stayed at the level of the non Wii sports online straight console version seemed to be highly unlikely.  With four or more player co-op and competitive play available on the console unit, is seems that this is put perfectly in place for success and adoption by gamers around the world.  The fact that the games are not online is kind of what separates the Wii console from other consoles available. Offering online games may cause the Wii to become like the other consoles.

Nintendo are also developing other titles not just this one.  While the sports line has been highly successful, Wii sports online was never truly meant to be a focus of the product.  Now because of the desire and need for single specific titles it seems Wii Sport 2, and with it Wii sports online, have been pushed to the side.  Hopefully after the new year there will be an incarnation of this because this game for one wants to see Wii sports online. Other sports games are played online so why can’t Wii sports?

The purpose of this Wii sports review is to inform you what you are getting in a Wii sports bundle.  I am not going to take a look at the Wii accessories; I am going to review just the basic games inside Wii sports. This Wii sports review should give you a rough idea of a Wiii ports package and what to expect.

Wii Sports Review – 1,2, 3 or 4 controllers

Wii Bowling is the first game I will look at. This game is a lot of fun and is probably the best choice if you only have one controller.  The game works very simply.  Just swing your arm back while holding down the button, swing forward and let go.  You should the ball go flying down the lane knocking into the pins.  You can put spin and movement on the ball by turning your wrist at the right moment.  Players can play against each other by taking turns. And you don’t need to buy another controller for this as you can take turns with one.

Wii baseball is the second game to get our Wii sports review.  This game is perfect if you have two controllers.  One player takes control of the pitcher, the other of the batter side as you go head to head.  Batting is just like it is in the real world; swing the wii remote around to see the bat move.  Pitching works a lot like bowling in that you can hold the button down for certain pitches, put curve and spin on it as well. You can choose between different styles of throwing just like you can in bowling.

Thirdly Wii Tennis is to get our Wii sports review. This game is perfect if you have four controllers.  Each person can take a player in a doubles tennis match.  We play this game all the time on my roommates 60 inch plasma screen television and let me tell it is the most fun I have had in a long time. Teams can battle in tournaments for hours to get their hands on the trophy.

These three games are just popular examples, there are many more fun games out there that Wii sports review reccommends. All require between 1 and 4 controllers so make sure you have enough before getting the game.

People who played video games in the past were limited in the distance that they could sit from the screen as a cord linked the system to the controller.  One solution to this problem was offered when remote handsets were developed that increased the distance from the system, and other features were added to the handsets, such as the rumble feature, to allow individuals to feel that they were more a part of the game.  However when the character in the game was swinging a golf club or throwing a football, the handsets only offered the individual the option of clicking buttons or moving controllers, which was not realistic in movement.

Solution: The Wii remote and Nunchuck

An answer to this lack of realism in the gaming world is the Wii remote and Nunchuck.  These devices allow individuals to move in ways that are similar to the real life movement of playing various sports games or fighting games.  Individual can still choose to sit down to play, but the Wii remote and Nunchuck allow individuals to also stand and swing the remote to make a golf swing, or to point the remote to shoot at another character according to the game that they are playing. Individuals can feel that they are more a part of the game and increases the enjoyment of the activity by the ability to move.

The Nunchuck is an attachment that is needed for certain games and is attached to the Wii remote by a length of cord.  The Nunchuck has a controller and buttons that the individual uses in one hand while the remote is being used in the other.  The Wii remote is attached to the user's wrist through the use of a strap that loops around it, while the Nunchuck is shaped to fit nicely into the individual's hand.  The two can be bought together for about fifty dollars, depending on where the individual shops. Using the Wii remote and Nunchuck together also increases the user experience.

When the individual makes a movement, the character on the screen also moves, mimicking the actions of the individual. Both the Wii remote and Nunchuck use the sensors that operate in conjunction with the sensor bar which has ten infrared LED lights which allow the remotes to place the individual's position and movement so that it works accordingly with the game. To hang onto while playing the various games Wii remote skins can be bought; they cover the remote in a rubber material so that it is easier to hold.
